My Review

Last night was A NIGHT for me. Anyone who knows me, knows that I have this "thing" about the play Wicked. I read the book, learned the story and the characters inside and out, and memorized the soundtrack from beginning to end. I love this musical. (p.s. I also love Legally Blonde but that's another blog)

My Mom decided that an economic stimulus check = the perfect opportunity to take ME to the theatre. Wow.

Let me hit rewind for a second:

When I was growing up, there was always some song from some play being sung in our house. Musical films were the norm on our TV...they were the good ones too. Titles like Oklahoma, South Pacific, Flower Drum Song, Music Man, Guys & Dolls, and Meet Me In St. Louis were just a few of the household favorites. To this day, my Mom and I will think of a "musical tune" to sing in response to questions or statements in general. For example, I called my Mom this morning to see how she was fairing after our late night out. Her response, "I'm limited". ( these are two words from a song in the play Wicked ).

Dorky? Well, you can keep that thought to yourself. I'm darn proud of it.

About this play...I was blown away. I knew it would be good but I felt like I was living a dream as I sat in the balcony looking down on the stage. Since I know the characters Elphaba and Glinda so well, I felt like I was watching two of my friends perform.

I didn't want it to end at all. I asked my Mom if she thought they would do the play again if we just sat in the theatre and waited.

Here's a cool little thing about one of the cast members of the show. I was very familiar with the first acting role of one of the characters. If you've ever watched the "new" Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney channel, you may be familiar with her too. Dee Dee played the role of Nessa Rose. She can be seen here in all of her MMC goodness. :) I have to admit, she doesn't look very "Broadway ready" in this video but she was fantastic.

I know this posting is kind of bouncing around, but that's how I feel about this too. I'm still on a Broadway high. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Anyone want to go see a play?

  4. I love, love, love Wicked, I came upon the book over 10 years ago, have read it at least 10 times. The musical is just beyond words, thank you for reminding me of my love for this story. Others call it obsessive, I call it passionate, LOL. I think I'll go read the book again while listening to the soundtrack!
