One of the most important things to help Eliana (who is almost 2 months old) reach important milestones, is tummy time. As she lies on her stomach, she’s able to play and exercise her core, neck, back, arm, and leg muscles. Right now, she’s working on lifting up her head to look around and she’s also been pulling her knees up under her body. These important skills are necessary to help her crawl and eventually walk.
Now, of course, all she really needs for tummy time is a blanket but I find that she responds to it better if she has some other sort of stimulation. So, I have toys surrounding her as she lays. Also, I like to prop her up with a pillow under her arms to help her lift her head a little easier until she’s stronger than she is presently. Come to think of it, something as simple as tummy time can get quite complicated if I have to prepare an area for her to lay on and get out all the toys to entertain her.
This is why an item like the Tummy Cruiser Prop & Play Mat from Bright Starts is very helpful to have on hand.
Yes, Eliana received the Pretty In Pink style of the Tummy Cruiser to try out and yes, we adore it. The mat is spacious and soft. Its bottom is made of fabric that is gentle but a little more coarse to help the mat from slipping when you put it on the floor for play.
**All “Pretty In Pink” items purchased from Bright Starts have a portion of their proceeds go to support breast cancer research.**
The Tummy Cruiser Prop & Play Mat not only has an optional pillow to place under her chest for added support, but it also has an entertaining dashboard for her to enjoy as she gets stronger. On the dashboard is a flexible “mirror” for her to look in, a steering wheel that clicks as it’s turned, and a flap that has crinkle paper inside for an entertaining sound when she plays with it. There is also a circular rattle attached that has a soft rim on it to make it easy on the gums when she decides to chew on it as well as a car shaped toy and water-filled teething keys. All three toys are detachable from the dashboard for independent play from the mat. And yes, the mat is machine washable. No worries about spot cleaning!
I can’t forget to mention the case the mat comes in. It’s a plastic “sleeve” that Velcro's shut and has a handle on the top. I simply removed the few small pieces of cardboard after opening it for the first time and reuse the plastic case over and over again. It’s great to have everything in one place and makes transporting it to people’s homes much easier.
Eliana’s doing quite well with her mat so far. As you can see, she has plenty of growing room which means we have plenty of time left to enjoy this.
I love that she can grow and get stronger while playing on this mat but I also love how my toddler son interacts with her on this mat. He likes turning the steering wheel for her or crinkling the paper for her to hear. It’s sweet to see him playing with her. I know that she’ll soon be showing him how she prefers to play with her mat too.
For parents who aren’t in the market for “pink” items, this mat also comes in an adorable, gender neutral, blue style.
