Blair.
Or if you want to be formal, David Blair.
Artist.
Poet.
Vocalist.
Musician.
Talent that few have and many strive to achieve.
Blair was someone who I didn't know intimately but there was a season in my life when I saw him monthly if not more often. He performed at many of the open mic nights the hubster and I attended. He played gigs with friends and the small band I was in was a part of a few of those. It was an extreme honor.
Blair's voice. It silenced rooms. It turned every eye his way. Whether he was singing or speaking, Blair's presence couldn't be mistaken and the sound of his voice definitely can't be forgotten.
I found out that Blair passed away recently. {http://www.detroitunderground.com/2011/07/25/remembering-david-blair/ } My heart has been heavy since. See, I can't say he was my buddy or that he would even have remembered my name if he heard it, but I admired him. I appreciated him and the way he shared himself from behind the microphone and with other artists. He was a presence, an influence, and someone everyone wanted to be around.
Just bringing up his name brings back a mountain of memories. The hubster and I could go on and on about the places and the people involved in that time of our life.
I feel a mixture of sadness and happiness as I reflect. Blair will be so missed but I'm thankful for the memories.
Here's Blair's cover of "Karma Police" by Radiohead. I remember him performing this years ago and still love it to this day.
