Meet Saige: American Girl 2013 Girl Of The Year {review and giveaway}

She's here! The 2013 doll of the year from American Girl is announced and will be available for sale in January. This is Saige Copeland. She is a 9 year old who loves painting and horseback riding in Albuquerque, New Mexico {the hot-air balloon capital of the world} at her grandma's ranch.

Saige's story begins when budget cuts in her school take away her art class. Add to that, the horse she loves may be sold. Saige comes up with a plan for an after school art program and has an idea of how to save her horse at the same time. Can she pull it off?

 Saige will be available during the year of 2013 and will have some fun accessories as well. She'll have a posable horse and hot-air balloon among other clothes and accessories available and sold separately. She'll also have books to share her story and to inspire young artists.

Beginning January 1, 2013, girls can visit the American Girl Store closest to them for Saige-themed events including painting demonstrations, free craft activities, photo opportunities, and Saige-inspired meals.  If you would like to learn more about Saige contests and promotions, visit AmericanGirl.com/girloftheyear or American Girl's facebook page. Also, you can request a free catalogue by calling 1-800-845-0005.

 Moms and teachers alike may be interested to know about the Saige Learning Guide. American Girl teamed up with Americans for Arts and created a free, downloadable curriculum. The purpose of the curriculum is to teach children how to use their imaginations to discover just how creative they can be. The curriculum is geared toward students in grades 3-6 and is packed with art activities. Parent/child activities are also available. Just visit AmericansForTheArts.org/go/AmericanGirl.

 Of course, I'm a bit partial to the red hair, blue eyes, and freckles on Saige. Her look is so fun and really sets her apart from the other Girl of the Year dolls from previous years. My Eliana hasn't met her yet as she just opened up dolls and accessories for Christmas. I know when she does, though, she's going to want her to come to her tea time and she'll probably find a way to squeeze her into bed with the other dolls too.

Don't miss out on this beautiful doll while she's available! Also, be sure to keep an eye out for a movie based on Saige's stories and chances to win Saige-themed contests!!
