Mr. Sticky Fingers

On Friday, we took our weekly family trip to the grocery store. All was well and we were making good time. Over and over again, we told Alex how good he was being and how much we appreciated that. I guess Alex decided to shake things up a bit.

When we got by the register, we still needed one item. I offered to run and grab it while hubster took Alex to wait in line. When I came back to the register, I saw the hubster's face was very red as he nervously laughed, "OK. I guess we'll take that too."

I was confused and stuck my nose right in the middle of everything to find out what went on.

It turns out, Alex decided he wanted this:
Not only did Alex grab this off the rack as the hubster approached the register, but he also stuck it in his mouth, slobbered it up, and tried his hardest to open the wrapping to eat it. Nice! It looked like we were stuck buying the nasty thing. Poor hubster was very embarrassed.

Alex was required to pose for mug-shots when we got home.
Following this, I saw to it that justice was served. I ate the York Peppermint Pattie.

Oh, come on! Don't feel bad for Alex. He didn't see me eat it. I waited until he went to bed.

This whole thing made me laugh. I had a story of candy stealing to confess to the hubster. (Mom, you're not going to like this one. Sorry.)

When I was around 3 or 4, I had an obsession with purses. Since my favorite color was yellow, my mom bought me this large, yellow tote bag/purse at a garage sale. I wanted to use it right away so I made sure to bring it to the grocery store.

(Here's where I hang my head)

My Mom and I were in line to buy our groceries. At this point in our shopping, I had a habit of looking for a candy bar to ask her to buy. (The answer was VERY seldom "Yes".) Well, THIS time I told my Mom I would "Be right back" and ran off to an empty aisle. She was used to me running off like this so she didn't think anything of it as she knew I would be back. What she didn't know was that I was off STEALING! That's right. I went to an empty aisle and filled my purse with suckers, candy bars, Rainblow, Tootsie Roll bars, and more.

It's alright Mom...you can pick your chin up off the floor now. The hubster's jaw dropped when I told him about this too. It's so SHOCKING!

I'm 28 now and Great Scott is closed so I can't go confess and pay the money I owe. All I can do is laugh about it...and watch Alex to make sure he doesn't repeat my offense.

Isn't it funny how little ones can remind us of something we've done in our past that would have otherwise been forgotten?

  1. No more yellow purses for you young lady!!!!! At least you could eat what you took, I took flower seeds. The sign said Free Take One, so I did, one of each kind I could find. Grandpa's term of punishment was for me to return to the Nursery and tell the owner I took all the flower seeds and to give them back. Lesson learned.

  2. Alex is adorable! And peppermint patties are my favorite - he has good taste :)

Waiting in the checkout line is absolute torture to me. I can only say NO so many times, you know? Hope he's feeling better (read your tweet).

  3. Yes, Sue did this recently with a Tiger protein bar, except she grabbed it, opened it and started eating it before I realized it. It had like 20 grams of protein.

She didn't eat for the rest of the day!
