Broadway In Detroit 2012-2013 Subscription Shows
Headlining the new season is The Book of Mormon. Nine 2011 Tony Awards® say it's the Best Musical of the Year. Vogue says, “It's the funniest musical of all time." And The New York Times says, "It's the best musical of this century." It's The Book of Mormon, the Broadway phenomenon from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez. The Daily Show's Jon Stewart calls it "A crowning achievement. So good, it makes me angry."  Contains explicit language.

The season opens with Billy Elliot the Musical, the joyous celebration of one boy’s journey to make his dreams come true.  Set in a small town, the story follows Billy as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, discovering a surprising talent that inspires his family and his whole community and changes his life forever. Based on the international smash-hit film, Billy Elliot is brought to life by a phenomenal cast and the Tony Award-winning creative team – director Stephen Daldry, choreographer Peter Darling and writer Lee Hall – along with music legend Elton John, who has written what the New York Post calls “HIS BEST SCORE YET!” A big show with an even bigger heart, Billy Elliot will enchant the dreamer in all of us.

The new, freshly reconceived, critically acclaimed production of La Cage Aux Follesstarring George Hamilton and Christopher Sieber, recently made Tony Awards® history as the first show to ever win the Tony Award® three times for best production.   La Cage Aux Folles tells the story of Georges (George Hamilton) the owner of a glitzy nightclub in lovely Saint-Tropez, and his partner Albin (Christopher Sieber), who moonlights as the glamorous chanteuse Zaza. When Georges' son brings his fiancée's conservative parents home to meet the flashy pair, the bonds of family are put to the test as the feather boas fly! La Cage Aux Folles is a tuneful and touching tale of one family's struggle to stay together... stay fabulous... and above all else, stay true to themselves!

The critically acclaimed, Broadway record breaking production Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical features the hit songs "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas” (written by Albert Hague and Dr. Seuss) from the original animated series. Max the Dog narrates this classic holiday tale that will entertain the whole family as the mean and scheming Grinch (Stefan Karl, star of Nickelodeon's LazyTown), whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the Whos, an endlessly cheerful bunch bursting with holiday spirit.

Memphis, winner of four Tony Awards® including Best Musical, Best Original Score (David Bryan and Joe DiPietro), Best Book (Joe DiPietro), and Best Orchestrations (David Bryan and Daryl Waters), takes place in the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 50’s, where a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun fell in love with everything he shouldn’t:  rock and roll and an electrifying black singer.  Memphis is an original story about the cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music changed forever.  Come along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves -- filled with laughter, soaring emotion and roof-raising rock 'n' roll.

Created by a Tony Award®-winning "dream team," and based on the hit DreamWorks film and the incredible true story that inspired it, Catch Me If You Can is the high-flying, splashy new Broadway musical that tells the story of Frank W. Abagnale, Jr., a teenager who runs away from home in search of the glamorous life. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer -- living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. But when Frank's lies catch the attention of FBI agent Carl Hanratty, Carl chases Frank to the end...and finds something he never expected. Don’t miss this big-hearted musical adventure based on an astonishing real-life story of being young, in love…and in deep, deep trouble!
