I shared with you not too long ago about the Diaper Genie and the Arm and Hammer diaper pail. You can read my diaper pail review by clicking it.

I've had 4 weeks of switching on and off between the 2 diaper pails and I'm ready to tell you which I prefer and which I recommend you purchase.

I choose...

Hands down, I choose the Diaper Genie Elite.

Now, I have never used either diaper pail before this testing and I'm not even going to bring up the one I was using prior to this. (I don't plan on using it again, so why bring it up, right?)

So, I know it's getting to you. You just have to know why I chose the Diaper Genie, right?

* The smell factor.
Both pails were designed to cut down on diaper odor. And guess what? Both do an equally good job of masking that odor and leaking that odor out. No matter what you buy, when you open it up to put in a diaper, some smell is going to get out.

*The size factor.
The Diaper Genie is MUCH easier to use as it stands much taller than the Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail. Anything I don't have to bend over to use while keeping a hand on my baby high on her changing table is great.

*The "ease" factor.
The Diaper Genie really is much easier to use. Step on the pedal to open it, throw in your diaper, and be done with it. With the Arm and Hammer diaper pail, I had to manually open it up, shove in the diaper (ew!), and then push the lid down.  (And for all of that work, it still smelled when I opened it up.)

*The $ factor.
The Diaper Genie is only about five dollars more expensive than the Munchkin diaper pail and the refills for each cost about the same amount. I say, pay 5 extra dollars and stick with what is easier in the long run. You will thank yourself for it every time you use the Diaper Genie.

So, there you have it. I didn't think I would choose the Diaper Genie when my 4 week test drive started, but I'm happy with my choice. Any questions?

Diaper Pail Test Drive: My Favorite.

For the past 4 weeks, I've been testing out 2 different diaper pails. One is the Diaper Genie II Elite from Playtex and the other is the Arm and Hammer diaper pail from Munchkin.

In this post, I'll tell you all about each of them and I'll share with you my favorite in the follow-up post at another time.

Here they are, side by side.

Diaper Genie is on the left and Munchkin is on the right.  There's about a foot difference in height between the 2.

I'll start by talking about my Diaper Genie diaper pail. When I was putting it together for the first time, I had a bit of trouble getting the bottom half to fit with the top. After I got that, though, the set up was pretty easy from there.  I pulled out the plastic bag from the ring, tied it off at the end, and made sure it was long enough to reach the bottom of the pail. After that, I grabbed the handle with one hand and held the top with the other hand as I placed it next to the changing table for use.

When it came time to dispose of my very first diaper, I couldn't wait to see how easy or difficult it would be. I simply stepped on the foot pedal, watched the top open up, and dropped the diaper in. The Diaper Genie did the rest. Phew!

When the bag is full, simply open the Diaper Genie, grab hold of the bag with enough slack left to tie it, and slide it through the cutter. Tie off both ends, remove the bag of diapers, and pull down the other not to create another bag in the Diaper Genie. It's truly very simple.

The Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail from Munchkin is very different than the Diaper Genie while it is also designed to guard against odor.

To use this one, you insert one single bag into the holder. Then, you push the button on the lid and lift to open, push the diaper inside, and lower the lid. As you lower the lid, you will hear it twisting the bag shut to keep odors at bay. The bag does open back up when you lift the lid to insert another diaper.

Here's what sets this diaper pail apart from others on the market, On the bottom of the lid, there is this refillable container that you keep full with Arm and Hammer Baking Soda. Every time you close the diaper pail's lid, it shakes out a little baking soda into the bag. This absorbs the odors from the diapers.

When it's time to empty the diaper pail, twist the lock on the outside door and open it. You'll see the bag of diapers inside. Then, you pull the top of the bag out from under the lips that hold it in place, close the bag using its seal (kind of like a zip-lock bag), and then pull it out through the bottom of the pail.

I love how the bag closes and can be taken right out to the trash that way without having to stick it in a separate bag. The lock on the top of the bag is strong enough to not worry about spilling diapers everywhere. Nice!

I've loved being able to test these 2 diaper pails out and I'll be back to tell you which is my favorite and why soon!
