My baby girl has started standing up and taking her first steps recently. I can hardly believe I will have 3, perfectly mobile kiddos soon. {Sounds fun, right?}

Just in time for my little wiggler to become a little wobbler, Huggies and Mom Central Consulting sent me 2 packs of the new Huggies Little Movers Slip On Diapers to try out.

#firstfit

Right away, I changed out the diapers I had in the changing table for these new ones and started using them. I'm learning that I can stop using the changing table for the most part with my smallest kiddo and simply stand her up to change her. It makes changing her diaper so much faster and easier.

#firstfit

Now, these diapers still have that great leak lock protection I've talked about before but they're designed just for those little ones who have started standing and walking. There is no velcro to close up as they all come ready to just slip on and go.

#firstfit

But you can bet that taking these off is just as simple. The sides are easy to undo and the diapers design easily rolls up and the tight-hold velcro keeps it closed for easy disposal. No need to worry about messes or old diapers coming undone!

Here's a commercial to help give you a full picture of these Little Movers Slip On Diapers.

These diapers really do work wonderful and they do stay put. Through ever walk, fall, crawl, stand, sit, and squirm, I don't worry that these might leak because I'm sure they won't.

HUGGIES has done it again, and made a product that makes me want to switch over and use them exclusively. These come with my stamp of approval and recommendation for anyone with little movers in the home.

If you'd like to try them out, let me help you save on your first purchase by offering you a coupon. Just go to the HUGGIES page, click on "Get Coupon", answer a few simple questions and you'll get a coupon for $2 off your purchase!!

Grab your coupon, go buy them, and try them for yourself. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

In the world of disposable diapers, no two styles are made equal. This is what I have taken away from my review opportunity with Huggies this time around. I was recently sent packs of Huggies Little Movers and Overnites to try out with Mikayla. I must admit, I'm pretty smitten.

The Huggies OverNites diapers are made specifically to keep babies dry, or at least dry feeling, at night. In fact, they're designed for up to 12 hours of leak lock action! My Mikalya is very sensitive and would wake up if she were at all uncomfortable. The bad thing is it can take quite a bit of time to get her settled back to sleep if I had to go in her room and change her in the middle of the night. I've found that with the OverNites, she sleeps more comfortably and hasn't had even one morning waking up soaked, when other brands have sometimes leaked.

The Huggies Little Movers are made for the wiggliest of babies. I find that the fit of these diapers works perfectly for Mikayla's very mobile, but not yet walking, stage of development. These diapers move so well and keep everything locked in tight. I've not yet experienced a leak with these diapers, and believe me...she's really put them to the test with her crawling, pulling up, cruising, sitting, napping, and playing.

I'm honestly very impressed with these diapers and would love to use these more regularly in the future. Do you have an experience with Huggies worth sharing? Head over to their facebook page and let them know. :)

eBay - San Jose, CAI'm a mom of three kiddos and that doesn't leave me a lot of extra time in which to get my shopping done for all the people on my shopping list this year. Not to mention, if I did get out to shop, I can't let my little ones see half of what I'm buying for fear of spoiling their Christmas morning or ruining a surprise for someone else in our family.

This year, I looked at eBay and was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of brand new items for sale that are on high demand by a lot of holiday shoppers. I can also add, I've done a lot of shopping on eBay in the past when looking for very specific items. I've not only had great luck in finding what I was looking for, but I also have been quite pleased with my purchases, both used and new.

Would you like to see the top 10 items on my shopping wish list?

  1. For Me {because where else should I start my list?} the Apple iPad Mini
  2. For Eliana {my 3 year old} the Disney Princess Toddler Dolls
  3. For Alex {my 5 year old} Air Hogs
  4. For Mikayla {my 11 month old} The LeapFrog Poppin' Play Piano
  5. For the Hubster: Samsonite luggage {he travels a lot for his job}
  6. For my sister: UGG boots
  7. For my brother: Keurig Coffee
  8. For my mom: Nook Simple Touch
  9. For my dad: Dewalt Tool Sets
  10. And for me again...to make the number round, of course: Dooney & Bourke Handbags
Head over to eBay's shopping gift guide and see if they have the new item you're looking for. Or, if you're like me and always on your mobile phone, download the  eBay mobile app and begin shopping with ease. You can even scan a bar code if you'd like to run a search for a specific item. I love this option as it gives me knowledge of the deals to be had right on the spot.

When it comes to diapers, I'm pretty picky. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg but I also need to consider my kiddos. For example, my second born child has very sensitive skin. It seemed most diapers gave her a rash and we had to stick with a brand we could trust. HUGGIES is a brand that never upset her skin or gave us a problem otherwise. Since learning that, we've bought this brand time and time again with confidence.
I was recently sent the new Snug & Dry diapers to try with Mikayla. Since she's 4 months old, she's not very mobile. However, she does lay down on her gym mat, sit in her supported seat, ride in a baby carrier, and spend a lot of time in her car seat as we travel around. Some of these positions put us at risk for a "blow out" situation but I can tell you, I never once had a problem with these diapers while trying them out. There were no leaks, no rashes, and Mikayla seemed quite comfortable in them. These diapers feature a leak lock system that locks wetness away to prevent leaks. They also have a SnugFit Waist to get the best fit possible.

In addition to the diapers, I was also sent wipes to try out. The One & Done Refreshing Wipes I tried out were scented with Cucumber and Green Tea. The scent wasn't overpowering at all and was actually very clean smelling. Beyond using them for diaper changes, I used the wipes on hands and faces as well. What I like about these wipes is that they're thick so they can handle a big cleanup while being gentle enough for delicate bottoms.

Overall, we've had a pretty good experience with the new HUGGIES Snug & Dry Diapers and One & Done Refreshing Wipes. Add these to my shopping list!

What do you look for when choosing diapers/wipes for your family?

Psst...Keep up with HUGGIES on Facebook and Twitter.

What did you least expect when you were pregnant or a new Mom? Me? Well, If I can be honest, I wasn't really ready for the whole "mucus plug" bit. Oh, boy...I was so grossed out and I remember calling my mom and saying "Why did you not warn me about this?!?". {Don't you think it a little important to give first-timers a "heads up" about this kind of thing? LOL}

We all have great stories to share, and PlaytexBaby wants to hear them! Starting April 16th Playtex Baby is holding a contest on their Facebook page, asking Moms to share candid, unexpected moments of pregnancy and motherhood. They will be selecting daily winners, as well as a grand prize winner who will be flown to LA for the premiere of What To Expect When You’re Expecting. Each and every day, I begin and end by flossing and then brushing my teeth for two minutes. On rare occasion, I have to rush through the process or skip flossing in the morning {depending on the kiddos} and I just can't stand the feeling. {Most of the time, I'll go back and brush again in the afternoon if this happens.} I guess you can say, I really like the "clean" feeling as I also like the store-bought products that can help me accomplish this.

You know the "clean" feeling I'm talking about, right? It's the one that you feel after a dentist appointment...and then wait 6 months {for another appointment} for your mouth to feel clean again. It seems almost impossible to achieve that on your own right? {I know I'm not alone here.}

Because I feel this way about oral care, I've been testing out the new Crest & Oral-B Pro-Health Plaque Control items. I've been using the items pictured above routinely and am already enjoying them. I'll be sharing more about that at another time.

Today, I want to tell you about an incredible opportunity to win with Crest and Oral-B Pro-Health! How does a trip to London to see the Olympic games sound? Amazing, right? You can enter the Pro-Health Clinical Olympic Games Sweepstakes by clicking the link. And if you don't win the big prize, you could still win one of the weekly drawings for the full product line. The sweepstakes ends on May 31st so head over there and enter!!

If I can be transparent with you, I'd like to admit how "traditional" my family is. We don't seek out many "green" or "natural" products in general when shopping. However, we have learned some of our children's needs don't agree with our regular purchases and are always looking for the product to fill that need for us.

For example, two of my three kiddos {so far} have very sensitive skin and a light complexion. This has lead us to buying things like detergent made without dyes or perfumes, natural diaper creams, and soaps for sensitive skin.

Fortunately, one of the brands that has always worked well for us is Johnson's Baby. And since this is a brand I remember from my own childhood, I love using it with my children.

New to store shelves, Johson's Natural products bring the same quality to our bath time while providing more natural ingredients. We received the Johnson's Natural Head-to-Toe Foaming Body Wash, Baby Lotion, and Baby Shampoo to try out.

I began using these products for my newborn daughter's bath and have yet to reach for anything else. I love feeling good about the items I'm using for her and knowing that they're safer for her sensitive skin. I also appreciate the fact that these items are so affordable.

So what makes up these new, natural products? You can find a full list for each item on the Johnson's Natural website, but here's a look at what's included in each of the three items:

All of our JOHNSON'S® NATURAL® products are at least 98% natural. The remaining 2% of our ingredients are dedicated to the ongoing safety and preservation of our gentle formula.

JOHNSON'S® NATURAL® products have

  • No Parabens
  • No Dyes
  • No Animal Byproducts
  • No Silicones
  • No Lanolin
  • No Paraffin
  • No Petrolatum
  • No Phthalates
  • No Essential Oils

{Psst...there are also videos on the website to give you some fun ideas of how to enjoy the outdoors with the little one{s} in your life.}

Products like these are an easy way to get started in living a more natural lifestyle and has me thinking up ways to do even more things for my kids. How do you live naturally? What are some of your favorite things to do outdoors?

I was recently selected to be a part of the Dr. Scholl's blog tour with Mom Central. Initially, I thought the hubster would be doing this review as he has flat feet and needs inserts. However, he preferred that I go ahead and try them out and I'll tell you...I'm really glad he did.

I headed out to my local pharmacy to try out the foot map analysis from Dr. Scholl's and see what kind of inserts they recommended for me.

It was really easy to use. I just stepped up, followed the screen prompts and revealed this result.

As you can see, they suggested the 110 which is the smallest amount of correction. However, since I have high arches in my feet, I figured that I would try them out and see how I feel about them.

When I received my orthotic inserts, I was impressed with the packaging but even more impressed when I observed the way the inserts are made.

Each insert is made specific to the contours of each foot and they're clearly marked whether they're for the right or left foot. The gray area on the insert is firm and acts as a support for the arch of the feet where the yellow areas are more pliable and cushioned.

Now, these inserts are made to fit into the back of the shoe and don't extend all the way to the toes. I feel like mine fit to the balls of my feet but it's going to be different depending on the shoe size, and foot of each individual using Dr. Scholl's Orthotic Inserts.

As part of this campaign, I was told to try them out for a week and let you know what I think about them. Well, first off, these aren't going to fit into every shoe. For example, I have some flats that they fit in but other flats become too wide and uncomfortable if I use the inserts. I decided to keep them in my tennis shoes and do a lot of walking in them before sharing my thoughts.

I noticed a marked difference in the comfort of my shoes right away using the orthotic inserts. My greatest issues come from having high arches in my feet. If my shoes can't support my high arches, my feet hurt and that pain reaches up to my back as my body tries to "correct" my stride to avoid further pain. The Dr. Scholl's orthotic inserts gave my foot great support and I have had no issues with aching feet or pain in my back.

When my son and I did the walk-athon at the zoo last weekend, we walked over 2 miles {including the sidetracks to see animals}. It was hot and I was tired but I had no discomfort at all and I know that's because I was using the orthotic inserts.

Even if you don't feel like you need inserts in your shoes, you may be surprised to find that these really do make a difference. Go visit your local Dr. Scholl's stand {I found mine at Meijer} and see what inserts you need. They cost only $50 which is a steal in comparison to other inserts.

Also, there's a rebate available should you choose to give them a shot. By visiting the link, you can receive a $7.50 rebate on your purchase.

I had a wonderful weekend with my family {and hope you did too} but my mind has been spinning since the big "Mother's Day" has come and gone. I always get really sentimental on Mother's Day because I am in love with the thought that God picked me and my kiddos to go together.

I never knew if I'd be a mom. I never expected I would be. At just 21, I had ovarian cysts that caused me a lot of pain, a lot of testing, and a lot of worry. After my first ultrasound, I was told I had 9 cysts on one ovary and one big one that wrapped all the way around my other ovary.

My doctor at the time was extremely lacking in personal care when she came in the room to give me test results one day. "If you want children, you should start trying now. I don't think they'll be possible by the time you're ready." My heart sunk. I was only 21 and I had JUST started dating someone...the hubster...but we were nowhere near the place where having children comes into conversation.

Fast forward a few years to when the hubster found a tumor in a self examination and thus began his battle with cancer. He went through treatments and won his battle {thank the Lord} but his doctors told him that the chemotherapy may make it impossible to have children. Not only that, they told him that it's possible that a child could be born with a serious problem or deformity if we did conceive.

The hubster and I took it all to prayer. We didn't want to get our hopes up too high but we were pretty sure that God had a child in mind for us. In fact, the month I had my calendars put together to track ovulation so we could start trying to conceive, I found out I was already pregnant. 9 months later, I met Alex...the little boy who would completely change my life by giving me a new purpose.

Two and a half years after we had Alex, I had Eliana. Oh, how my heart overflowed that day. Having 2 children, a boy and a girl, was something I never thought would happen to me.

It was during this time my OB told me I had been suffering from endometriosis for all those years. I still do struggle with the pain of it but am thankful that my case is not so extreme that I couldn't conceive.

Being a Mom means miracles happen. And the days I find myself completely frustrated with the craziness that can stir up in our home, I stop and remember that my children are gifts and I choose to love them through whatever the present scenario is.

And now, if I could, I'd like to encourage you to make a visit to the Johnson's Baby Facebook page. For every "like" they receive, they will donate $1 to the March of Dimes. Also, beginning this month, they will be hosting monthly photo contests. Winners will be receiving prizes and the grand prize {$25,000} will be given in Jan. 2012.  Let's work together to bring joy to many moms by helping their little ones get well.

I use Arm & Hammer Baking Soda for a few things around the house but I never thought of using it for beauty treatments. When Mom Central offered, I had to jump at the opportunity to try this out for myself and see if I really could create my own "mommy spa" by grabbing a box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. Here's a look at the beautiful basket they sent me.

The basket included and aromatherapy candle, organic tea bags and a tea cup to create a spa experience; a nail kit, nail polish, organic body lotion and lavender oil for a manicure/pedicure; and a terrycloth hair wrap nd organic wash cloth for a facial. Since I was all set, I decided to choose a treatment to try out.

I decided to try the manicure.

I prepared the 2 parts baking soda, one part water mixture and had a bowl of warm water to rinse my hands in after the scrub. My hands were feeling so soft after that and I decided to lotion up my hands before I headed to the table to push back my cuticles the the tool in my manicure kit. I also decided to spoil myself and light a scented candle while waiting for my green tea to heat up in the microwave.

Now, this is the life!

After I finished with my cuticles, I filed and buffed my nails and applied some pink nail polish.

And what were the kiddos doing while I took a moment to pamper myself? They were playing in the next room. Lets raise our mugs and give a cheer to a mom taking a moment for herself! Stolen moments like these are important and I find the relaxed feeling lasts throughout the rest of the day. Who knew all of this beauty and pampering could come of a common, household item like Arm & Hammer Baking Soda?!

There are many other beauty tips for using Arm & Hammer Baking Soda as well. Here are a few for you to get you started. Go ahead and pick one to enjoy on your own.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Arm & Hammer and received a beauty basket to thank me for taking the time to participate. The opinions and thoughts shared are mine and mine alone. Others may disagree or have a different experience.

I shared with you not too long ago about the Diaper Genie and the Arm and Hammer diaper pail. You can read my diaper pail review by clicking it.

I've had 4 weeks of switching on and off between the 2 diaper pails and I'm ready to tell you which I prefer and which I recommend you purchase.

I choose...

Hands down, I choose the Diaper Genie Elite.

Now, I have never used either diaper pail before this testing and I'm not even going to bring up the one I was using prior to this. (I don't plan on using it again, so why bring it up, right?)

So, I know it's getting to you. You just have to know why I chose the Diaper Genie, right?

* The smell factor.
Both pails were designed to cut down on diaper odor. And guess what? Both do an equally good job of masking that odor and leaking that odor out. No matter what you buy, when you open it up to put in a diaper, some smell is going to get out.

*The size factor.
The Diaper Genie is MUCH easier to use as it stands much taller than the Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail. Anything I don't have to bend over to use while keeping a hand on my baby high on her changing table is great.

*The "ease" factor.
The Diaper Genie really is much easier to use. Step on the pedal to open it, throw in your diaper, and be done with it. With the Arm and Hammer diaper pail, I had to manually open it up, shove in the diaper (ew!), and then push the lid down.  (And for all of that work, it still smelled when I opened it up.)

*The $ factor.
The Diaper Genie is only about five dollars more expensive than the Munchkin diaper pail and the refills for each cost about the same amount. I say, pay 5 extra dollars and stick with what is easier in the long run. You will thank yourself for it every time you use the Diaper Genie.

So, there you have it. I didn't think I would choose the Diaper Genie when my 4 week test drive started, but I'm happy with my choice. Any questions?

I am a member of the Mom Central community and I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central, sponsored by Diaper Genie, and received a free Diaper Genie diaper pail and a free Munchkin Arm & Hammer diaper pail to facilitate my review. Diaper Pail Test Drive: My Favorite.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

For the past 4 weeks, I've been testing out 2 different diaper pails. One is the Diaper Genie II Elite from Playtex and the other is the Arm and Hammer diaper pail from Munchkin.

In this post, I'll tell you all about each of them and I'll share with you my favorite in the follow-up post at another time.

Here they are, side by side.

Diaper Genie is on the left and Munchkin is on the right.  There's about a foot difference in height between the 2.

I'll start by talking about my Diaper Genie diaper pail. When I was putting it together for the first time, I had a bit of trouble getting the bottom half to fit with the top. After I got that, though, the set up was pretty easy from there.  I pulled out the plastic bag from the ring, tied it off at the end, and made sure it was long enough to reach the bottom of the pail. After that, I grabbed the handle with one hand and held the top with the other hand as I placed it next to the changing table for use.

When it came time to dispose of my very first diaper, I couldn't wait to see how easy or difficult it would be. I simply stepped on the foot pedal, watched the top open up, and dropped the diaper in. The Diaper Genie did the rest. Phew!

When the bag is full, simply open the Diaper Genie, grab hold of the bag with enough slack left to tie it, and slide it through the cutter. Tie off both ends, remove the bag of diapers, and pull down the other not to create another bag in the Diaper Genie. It's truly very simple.

The Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail from Munchkin is very different than the Diaper Genie while it is also designed to guard against odor.

To use this one, you insert one single bag into the holder. Then, you push the button on the lid and lift to open, push the diaper inside, and lower the lid. As you lower the lid, you will hear it twisting the bag shut to keep odors at bay. The bag does open back up when you lift the lid to insert another diaper.

Here's what sets this diaper pail apart from others on the market, On the bottom of the lid, there is this refillable container that you keep full with Arm and Hammer Baking Soda. Every time you close the diaper pail's lid, it shakes out a little baking soda into the bag. This absorbs the odors from the diapers.

When it's time to empty the diaper pail, twist the lock on the outside door and open it. You'll see the bag of diapers inside. Then, you pull the top of the bag out from under the lips that hold it in place, close the bag using its seal (kind of like a zip-lock bag), and then pull it out through the bottom of the pail.

I love how the bag closes and can be taken right out to the trash that way without having to stick it in a separate bag. The lock on the top of the bag is strong enough to not worry about spilling diapers everywhere. Nice!

I've loved being able to test these 2 diaper pails out and I'll be back to tell you which is my favorite and why soon!
