Just when I thought I knew what I would want in a cloth diaper {i.e. fleece lining, pocket diaper, etc.}, I was introduced to a brand that made their diapers different from what I had grown used to. And do you know, this diaper makes me want to own more like it.

I was recently sent the Swaddlebees One Size Simplex Cloth Diaper for review and I just had to choose the Owls print. When you see the photos, you'll understand why....too stinkin' cute. But upon receiving the diaper and getting past the "Oh, look how CUTE" of the diaper's exterior, I opened it up to find no fleece lining...or was there...?

The One Size Simplex diaper is lined with 100% cotton. It has an opening on each end of the diaper so that I can add inserts/doublers and they'll come out on their own in the wash. In addition, the diaper has its own doubler attached at just one end of the diaper. This can be folded under the cotton lining or it can be pulled out and laid across the top of the lining to expose a  stay-dry, microfleece layer to make the diaper soft and help baby feel dry. Now owners can have their preference of lining just by folding the doubler inside or on top!

I tuck the doubler in, preferring the cotton lining, and when I wash the diaper it comes out on its own The diaper is easily cleaned and dries faster this way. Yes, this is a diaper that goes right into the washer and the dryer. I love the ease of use here.

As I've said in the past, the beauty of a one size diaper is that I can get a custom fit for Mikayla as she grows without having to buy additional diapers and leave behind diapers she's outgrown. It's much more cost effective in the long run, in my opinion.

I highly recommend this brand and type of diaper to anyone, whether you've used cloth diapers forever or you're just starting out. This one is so easy to use, wash, and dry and I haven't had a single leak in the couple of weeks I've been using it. {Remember, cloth diapers are just like disposables in the way that they should be changed often. If a baby sits in the diaper too long, the diaper will fail.}

Here are some photos so you can see the diaper and how it fits.

Stop by Swaddlebees to see their other adorable colors/designs and buy some while you're there. You can get the One Size Simplex diaper for $25.95.

Whether you're a weathered professional, a newbie {like myself}, or shopping for someone who prefers cloth diapers, you will most definitely like Go Go Natural. I was shopping around on the site recently and was impressed by the expansive stock of cloth diapers available as well as cloth diapering accessories.

Right off the bat, let me tell you that you will find more than just cloth diapers there. In fact, Go Go Natural also sells items for baby, mom, home, and gifts! Yes. I'll wait here so you can go check it out for a minute.

...

Nice, right?

Of the many types of diapers sold, I was sent the One-Size pocket diaper from DinkleDooz to review. I'm not sure what it is about this bright orange diaper with yellow snaps, but I really like grabbing this one from the stack for Mikayla to wear. Perhaps it's just because it matches her sunny personality so much.

This diaper is lined with poly fleece and has a pocket at the back where inserts can be added. It's super soft and it seems like this diaper is really comfortable for Mikayla when she wears it.

This diaper came with 2, terry cloth inserts. One is shorter than the other but it makes it easier to target the area where I need to double up on layers without adding extra bulk through the whole diaper.

As for the inserts themselves, they are pretty absorbent. However, I find that these are not the kind of inserts I need to use when Mikayla is napping. She soaks right through them during a nap so she doesn't wake up too happy. It's really not a big deal for me, though. I just make a mental note to use this during the time she's awake so I can change her as soon as she needs it, thereby avoiding any leaks.

This one size diaper truly will be with us for a long time. I think if it were opened all the way to its largest size, it would be too big for my {nearly} 3 year old. And when a single diaper can hang out with us that long, that equates to a lot of money saved on disposable diapers.

Here's Mikayla rocking her Dinkledooz diaper.

Yes, she's comfortable in it and yes, she has plenty of room to grow.

Please be sure to swing by Go Go Natural to see the many other brands and diaper types they sell. And if you may be interested in the brand I reviewed, you may also be interested to know they only costs $14.95 a diaper and come in 6 other colors

We were recently sent three cloth diapers to try out from Smart Snugs. All three of them are one-size diapers; The orange diaper is their Original pocket diaper, the white and blue is the MultiColor pocket diaper, and the blue and red is the Bamboo Charcoal. I was also sent a pack of Bio-Liners to try.

Each diaper came with a terry cloth insert and a bamboo insert. I found the bamboo inserts to be much more absorbent but the terry cloth ones work well too. Every child is going to be different but I find that I need to use the bamboo inserts for Mikayla's naps/night time.

I am crazy about the Biodegradable Flushable Diaper Liners we were sent as well. No, not for me. Truth be told, I have no issues with taking care of whatever goes on in a cloth diaper. I just do it and move on. However, this answers the question my hubster had about how to handle soiled diapers. You see, I'm not sure he's all that comfortable with using cloth diapers yet and he seemed to want to make sure he didn't have to deal with a dirty diaper. With these liners, all he'll ever have to deal with {beyond wiping a bottom} is wet diapers. The liner comes out easily and can be flushed down the toilet.

*Note: I did not find the liners to be scratchy at all and Mikayla doesn't seem to mind my using them.
Buy a pack of 100 for only $7.99!

At Smart Snugs, they put together a video demonstration that I've included here so you can see how they work.

The first diaper I'll tell you about is the Bamboo Charcoal. This is actually my favorite of the three styles I was sent strictly based on the fact that it's lined with the most natural fibers. I have three kiddos who all have inherited my fair and sensitive skin so this is most important to me. I prefer natural fibers to ensure there won't be any skin irritation.
Now, I did run into an issue with a snap on the front of the diaper. I have to snap them at the second rise level for Mikayla and one of the snaps broke on just the second time using the diaper. If you were to purchase this diaper, you don't have to worry. I looked up the brand's return policy and they'll guarantee their diapers for one year {with some exceptions}. I'm sure a return would have been no problem had I purchased the diaper.

Pros:
  • Lined with natural fibers for sensitive skin
  • Dark color = no worries of staining
  • Two snaps at the hips help keep everything inside of the diaper.
  • Buy it for only $18!

The orange diaper is the Original Stay-Dry pocket diaper. I love the bright, gender neutral color of this diaper. In fact, all three diapers sent to me are great choices for those who want to stick to the gender neutral styles of diapers {great idea if you think there may be another baby in the home at some point}.

This diaper is lined is a soft, fleece fabric and the snaps on the front make is so easy to adjust the diaper to Mikayla's size. Also, the pocket on the back of the diaper make it easy to stuff and remove any inserts.

Pros:
  • Two snaps at the hips help keep everything inside the diaper
  • Pocket at the back waist makes for an easy stuff or removal of an insert
  • Fleece lining is soft and moisture wicking, offering the most comfort for a baby
  • Buy it for only $13!

The final style is the MultiColor Pocket Diaper. These only have one set of snaps on the hips but, to date, I haven't noticed any big differences in how well the diaper keeps moisture in. The MultiColor diapers are so cute and come in either Pink & Blue, Yellow & Red, or Red, White, & Blue.

Pros:
  • Fun styles of mixed color
  • Soft fleece wicks away moisture from baby
  • Adjustable snaps get the right fit every time.
  • Buy it for only $13!

I use these diapers daily {have been for a few weeks now} and am pretty happy with them. I have had a few issues of leaks with the diapers but I've also discovered that Mikayla can be a bit of a soaker so I've begun doubling up on inserts when she sleeps while sticking as close as possible to our routine so there are no long gaps between changing during the day.

Our Smart Snugs Cloth Diapers Review

If you use cloth diapers, you may or may not have heard of Thirsties Baby diapers. Since I'm a rookie in the cloth diaper department, I had never heard of them but was very excited to have a chance at trying them out with Mikayla. I was sent a DUO AIO {all in one} diaper and 2 hemp inserts.

The hemp inserts that were sent are absolutely amazing. These are the only hemp ones I own and there is nothing like these when it comes to absorbency. Other types do work, these just go that extra mile.

I chose the color Storm Cloud and a size 1. The size choice is my biggest regret as it only goes up to 18 pounds and the last time Mikayla was weighed, she was just under 16. The diaper fits her just right but I really don't want to give up using this diaper. Anyway, for the size 1, you can see that the rise in the front can be adjusted to make this diaper teeny tiny for a newborn or big enough for a {in my case} 6 month old baby. And should you prefer Aplix for the top over snaps, you can purchase those as well.

The inside of this diaper is just lovely. A soft flannel rests on baby's bum while layers of terry cloth are attached underneath. Fleece fabric is what backs the water resistant PUL fabric making this very soft.

I was hoping the above photo would give you a better idea of how thick the sewn in soaker is. It's thick enough for me that I don't need to use the hemp inserts with this diaper. And since it's sewn in, I just put the diaper on Mikayla and take it off when I'm done. There is nothing to separate.

For these photos, I put one of the hemp inserts behind the diaper's soaker to give you an idea of how thick the diaper can get with just one of those. As you can see, this diaper fits her perfectly. It comes up high enough in the front and back to not have to worry about leaks there and it's pretty sealed around the legs as well.

I like to sun dry my cloth diapers as much as possible and have noticed that I have to really wring this one out before hanging it. With a name like Thirsties, I should have expected as much. It takes a little bit longer for this diaper to dry on the line but it's worth waiting for.

Do you have any experience with Thirsties Baby diapers? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Maybe you would like to give them a try? How about a nice giveaway? :)

If you happen to be in the market for an organic cloth diaper, allow me to point you toward the Kushies brand. They sent me this adorable, organic diaper in their Fanta Pink style, Infant size, and I am very impressed with it.

The outside of the diaper is made of nylon fabric to lock the moisture inside. This also makes the diaper lighter. There are many different patterns/styles available but I thought this print was just too sweet.

The inside of the diaper is made of organic flannel. That makes is super soft and super absorbent. There is a flap that is attached at the waste band to act as the soaker. However, there is also a pocket built into the flap where additional inserts can be added for those who wet a little bit more than others.

*Side note* I've never added anything to this diaper and I haven't had one leak from it yet!

Finally, the flap can be folded up for girls and left unfolded for boys. Wherever I need that extra layer of absorbency, I can just create it in the place I need it.

Kushies diapers also come with a booklet with specific instructions on how to take care of them. I'm so glad I didn't have to hop on a website to get basic information. This made it easier for me to wash it up so I could use it as soon as possible.

Let's chat about how this diaper fits. It has hook and loop fasteners, making it easy to create a custom fit for my daughter as she grows. Since this diaper is made for babies up to 22 pounds and mine is only 15, I figured out how to roll the front down for her leak-free fit. It's really simple to do. Also, if you'll look at the photos above, you'll see the velcro tab on the inside of the diaper too. This means I don't have to worry about any "sticking" disasters when I wash it with other diapers.

The cut of this diaper is a bit more narrow than the others I have and that made me a bit worried at first. I thought for sure this one would leak on me at least once. I've never had an issue and Mikayla seems to be pretty comfortable in this cut of diaper.

Beyond making quality, reusable diapers, Kushies also has a number of diapering accessories and a full line of baby products like toys, clothing, bedding, and more! You can keep up with them at their online magazine, and facebook page.

BUY IT: You can purchase your own organic cloth diaper from Kushies for 17.99-20.99 {depending on the size purchased}.
