Always a fan of classic Disney films, I was thrilled to find out Lady and the Tramp was being released on DVD & Blu-Ray. This is one of those movies I grew up with and was very fond of. In fact, I remember going to Disney World when I was 12 years old and going on a mad hunt to find a stuffed Lady and Tramp in the shops there. {Yes, I found them.}

Now that I'm a mom to 3 kiddos, though, films like Lady and the Tramp are easy and natural additions to our DVD collection. I not only want them to enjoy it the way I did years ago, but I also want to watch it with them. And let me tell you, there's nothing like seeing a classic film remastered. The picture is crystal clear.

We received the Diamond Edition of Lady and the Tramp just the other day and my little ones were so excited. I put it in for them to watch and they were asking to watch it again as soon as it was over. Things like that put a smile on my face as I know they enjoy the magic of Disney films as much as I do.

On Tuesday, May 24th, Walt Disney Studios released Mickey's Great Outdoors on DVD. This comes with the Mickey Mote and a digital copy as well so little ones can interact and travel with their favorite Disney friends.

We received this DVD to review and my kiddos are crazy about it. Eliana likes to see Daisy and Minnie {her favorites} while Alex just likes to see the stories of Mickey and his friends in their outdoor adventures. There's a good variety of episodes on the DVD and Alex likes having a choice of which episode he would like to watch.

And if you're unfamiliar with the Mickey Mote, I wanted to make sure to share information on that for you too.

Disney’s Mickey Mote works with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes the Discovery Mode™ feature – an interactive “Watch & Play” feature on the DVD.  All parents have to do is program the remote control - there’s an easy and quick set-up guide in each DVD - and select the Discovery Mode feature on the menu screen.  Within minutes, kids will be easily able to respond to questions about scenes they just watched by pressing one of four color-coded buttons on the device -- a yellow star, green circle, orange triangle or blue square – to click in their responses.  Discovery Mode features include two levels of play, which provides more challenging questions as the child grows.  To date, there are more than 13 Disney Preschool DVD titles for parents to choose from that can be used with the remote control. 

Alex loves being able to interact with his DVD by answering questions as he watches. This turns a simple viewing into a game that keeps him on his toes and paying attention. Plus, he's totally independent with this. I only had to set up the Mickey Mote once and every time he wants to use it, he's all set to grab it. I just need to be sure to access the option from the DVD's menu when he wants it. 

And with the digital copy, you can download the DVD to your iPod, iPad, or whatever portable player you have so you can take this along on your road trips or vacations. I love this option so I can leave the DVD behind and grab my iPod for Alex to use on his own.  {Heads up! I don't think the Mickey Mote works this way.}

There's something about the spirit of Rapunzel that I just adore. She's creative, smart, and stronger than she realizes yet adorable and sweet. She's a princess that I love to root for as my children enjoy this movie again and again.

The DVD and Blu-Ray Combo Pack of Tangled came to us recently for a review. I can't decide who likes it more; me or the kids? Eliana is captivated by Rapunzel while Alex loves laughing at Pascal and Maximus. Truly, this movie has a great combination of characters and a beautiful storyline. 

My favorite part of the movie is the lantern scene. It's so magical and beautiful. And if I can confess,  it makes me tear up a little to see Rapunzel's reaction to seeing the lanterns for the first time...every time I watch it.

The DVD includes the feature film and a bonus of the original storybook openings. On the Blu-Ray disc, though, is the feature film in Blu-Ray Hi-Def and bonus features of deleted scenes, "Untangled: The Making Of A Fairy Tale", original storybook openings, and more!

This is a great story for the whole family to enjoy time after time. I can definitely recommend this for an Easter basket filler. Although, it may be hard to wait until then to watch it. {just sayin'} It hits store shelves on Tuesday, March 29th and I just know that it's going to sell like crazy.

March 11th was a big day for the movie Mars Needs Moms. In IMAX 3D, it opened in theaters nation wide. I had the special privilege of going to a screening of this movie with my mom the weekend prior to its release. 

Why did I take my mom and not my son? Well, I noticed that the movie is rated PG and I like to preview movies so I'm sure Alex can handle them at the age of 3 {almost 4}. I'm so happy I didn't have him sitting next to me for this screening as I know his sensitivities would make him uneasy with the feeling of aliens steeling a mom away. 

Having said that, though, I'm sure that my son would enjoy all the action and adventure in this movie. There is such a spirit of "don't give up" that drives this film from beginning to end. I was wondering what would happen next the whole time. There were moments I laughed. There were moments I cried. {Yes, I cried.} And there was even a time I leaned over to my mom and said "Sorry, mom." as I saw a familiar scene from my own childhood played out. 

The story is touching, funny, and sends a wonderful message about the importance of moms, as well as the importance of family in general. My mom and I both thought it was spectacular and think it's so good to see such important messages being relayed to today's family. 

When we went to the screening, we were able to see it in an IMAX 3D theater. This was my first experience with seeing a movie like this and I thought it was breathtaking. Really, it was larger than life but I felt like it was real. It was fun watching all the little hands reaching up for things as they flew off the screen at us. What was more impressive, though, was watching the "behind the scenes" footage of the making of the film while the closing credits ran. I never knew what went into creating a movie like this and it was so cool to see a bit of how it works.

Last weekend was an amazing time for my Spud {Alex} and I. We were invited to an exclusive screening of Gnomeo & Juliet and decided to make it a "date". Alex was very excited for sure.

When we arrived at the theater, we saw that Radio Disney was there to kick off the movie in a big way. They had free sheets of Gnomeo & Juliet valentines outside the theater that was showing the film. Alex thought this was so neat. However, all the real fun was waiting for us when we found our seats. The staff from Radio Disney had all sorts of activities going on for the children there. There were games to play, dances to learn, and lots of smiles and laughs from everyone there. The children participating were given some free swag...just like the prize pack I was able to giveaway here.

Now, Alex didn't want to leave my side to go dance with the kids so he didn't get anything. Except, when the fun and activities were wrapped up, the staff threw t-shirts into the crowd...and I caught one. I was pretty proud of myself and Alex couldn't believe it. He was thrilled with his "cool mom".

Anyway, on to the movie.
                                                                
For starters, I loved hearing the music of Sir Elton John being played and sung throughout the movie. It made me bop and made me feel like it was OK for a "big kid" like myself to enjoy the film. In fact, it made me feel like I was invited to enjoy the movie along with my 3 year old. {And the cameo of the Elton John gnome was hysterical!}

The set up of the Capulet vs. Montague rivalry was done with the beginning of the movie and I waited with anticipation to watch the gnomes come to life. But it wasn't just the gnomes who came to life. Every character in the garden came to life as well. It was thrilling and so funny at the same time. What I loved, though, was hearing the "gasp" and seeing the smile on Alex's face.

Of course, this story is based on the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet. It isn't quite so tragic, though. And the romance of the story is made in smiles, holding hands, and a kiss or two. There wasn't anything inappropriate {in my opinion} for a 3 year old to see.

To be honest, Alex was not at all interested in watching the characters falling in love. He began to wiggle in his seat and ask if we could go home. I encouraged him, though, and said "But Alex, we haven't seen the big fight yet". That got his attention and he sat on my lap until the story became exciting again. He loved the action of the film from the first race in the alley to the war of wars near the end. I won't tell you too much, though. I don't want to ruin anything for you.

I'll just leave you with a few clips from the film and let you know that Alex and I gave it "4 thumbs up". I highly recommend this movie for little girls and boys and their parents/guardians/caretakers alike. Make a family night of this one and enjoy it!

P.S. We saw it in 3D and LOVED the affect. Try to see it this way if you can. The characters really come to life that way.

The weather outside may be frightful but that just makes it the perfect opportunity to take the family to see the latest movie from Disney, Gnomeo and Juliet.  Have you seen the trailer for this? It looks absolutely adorable and I can not wait to take Alex to see it. I love the completely unique spin on a classic love story as played out by garden gnomes. {Leave it to Disney to imagine something like that up!}

Another great thing about Gnomeo and Juliet is that it brings Sir Elton John to the soundtrack. You know what that means, right? It means another outstanding soundtrack from Disney. I'm excited to hear the music for myself. And check out the cute, Elton John gnome!

Now, I haven't seen this movie so I can't tell you what I think of it {yet}. However, I have some fun facts that you may enjoy as much as I did. {These were sent to me by a rep for Disney.}

FILM FUN FACTS

CONSIDER THE SOURCE – Filmmakers offer a nod to Shakespeare in several ways:

• In a nod to “Hamlet,” Miss Montague’s mailbox is numbered 2B, while her rival neighbor Mr. Capulet’s mailbox is 2B with a red slash through it (“NOT to be”).
• “Macbeth” is referenced in a scene in which Juliet is threatened by a bulldog. She slams shut her garden gate and shouts “Out!”—followed quickly by the dog’s distant owner yelling “Damned Spot!”
• Featherstone’s shed interior features a ticket stub for “As You Like It.”
• The truck that rolls through and accidently drops a couple teapots (later mistaken by several gnomes as a broken comrade), is marked “Tempest Teapots.”

STREET SMARTS – Filmmakers conducted several research trips to Stratford Upon Avon to explore the world of the movie. Producer Steve Hamilton-Shaw hails from Stratford and served as a great authority.

• The Shakespeare statue in the film is based on the actual statue in Stratford, as is the park where the statue is located.
• A sequence that features a dog running through the streets of Stratford with Gnomeo in his mouth incorporates real life details of the neighborhood.

REALITY STARS -- Several real-life gnome-populated suburban British gardens helped inspire the locations for “Gnomeo & Juliet.”

ALL IN THE FAMILY – Seeking a disguise for Juliet, Nanette jumps onto the clothesline to fetch a black sock. During her descent, she passes a Kermit the Frog shirt hanging from the clothesline.

 Have you heard about the newest, animated film from Disney? Tangled is set to arrive in movie theaters November 24th in Disney Digital 3D.

Here's the synopsis of the film:

When the kingdom’s most wanted—and most charming—bandit Flynn Rider (voice of Zachary Levi) is taken hostage by Rapunzel (voice of Mandy Moore), a feisty teen with 70 feet of golden hair who’s looking for her ticket out of the tower where she’s been locked away for years, the unlikely duo sets off on a hilarious, hair-raising escapade filled with adventure, heart, humor and hair—lots of hair.

This is a film that I'm definitely looking forward to seeing. The hubster and I have already planned to make a date night of seeing it together. (I'm such a sucker for a Disney film.)  And after seeing the trailer, I'm even more excited to go.
