** Thanks to the PR firm or brand for the items to review. This review is based strictly on my experience and opinion. There was no compensation for the review itself or to influence my choice of words. Others may not agree or may have a different experience.**

If you were given $100 to spend at KOHL'S, how far could you stretch it? I think I did a pretty good job with my recent trip and I'm excited to tell you about it!!

Let me tell you, when I went to shop {and decided to use the money to get myself some things}, I had the hardest time not buying everything I saw. Every designer represented for my {30-something} age group, had at least 3 pieces I wanted to put in my cart. And please don't even get me started on handbags and shoes. There were so many cute choices to choose from. In the end, I decided on just one accessory for the clothes I bought.

Here's the bag I brought home. Yes, I did spend all $100 and yes, I did earn myself some KOHL'S cash. I love hitting a good sale!

Here are the items I bought hanging up. 9 pieces of clothing and 1 scarf! I KNOW! Front and center, you'll see my 2 favorite pieces. The color of the rose/coral top is bright and stunning. I also am completely smitten with the lace front and a touch of ruching on the bottom band to make sure it sits in a flattering way when worn. Also, the scarves were on sale the day I went in so I grabbed my favorite one. It's a taupe/beige color and has little sequins sewn in. {I love a bit of shiny!} I can't even count how many times I've worn this scarf already. It goes perfectly with so much of what I already own.

I found this high/low sweater in the Juniors clearance section. The sleeves are half-length so I can wear this anytime I want to cozy up. In the summer, that could be during an evening campfire, a walk in the colors of fall, or even in the winter. A versatile sweater is great to have.

The tank top I'm wearing here is one of 2 that I bought. I got a size small and they fit me perfectly. Add-in only paying $8 a piece and it's even better! Everyone needs basic tanks in the summer, right? These are paired with some shorts designed by Derek Lam for DesigNation. They're super cozy and make me want to go on some kind of beachy vacation. {These were 50% off when I bought them, by the way. Nice!}

Next, I found this navy, loose knit sweater on the Junior's department clearance rack. This has 3/4 length sleeves and the length hits just below the hips. This is another versatile sweater as it can be worn with a tank beneath it or a thin top with 3/4 length sleeves to warm it up a bit in the fall/winter. {I prefer to wear black or navy under the sweater, personally.}
Also, you can see my capri length leggings in the first pic. I purchased both black and gray as I love to wear these under skirts or dresses {when appropriate} for layering and modesty while keeping it cute.

Finally, I found this way too cute tank top on the clearance rack for only $6. The bright, summer colors are fun to wear and the bicycle print makes it really unique. It has a racerback wear the ruffle from the neckline continues down. In this pic, I've paired it with my boyfriend cardigan and skinny jeans to show you how I wear it in the sometimes chilly spring weather of Michigan.

Now, because of the sale going on, I earned $10 in KOHL'S Cash for every $50 spent. My total was just over $100 so I received $20! I decided to return to the store a few days later with Eliana and let her pick out a cute outfit and headbands. We still had $3 left of our credit but never got back to use it up.

All in all, I'd say I made a killing with my little shopping spree. Wouldn't you agree?

What kinds of things to you shop at KOHL'S for? I'd love to go back and buy some home goods next time.

I absolutely adore chic clothing and accessories. I'm also big on colors and patterns. But after looking around at several stores, I've found that it can be tricky to find the appropriate styles and types for my age. {I can't always get away with dressing as young as I feel.}

Bloom, a store based in Ohio with an online store to shop from as well, has a wonderful selection of clothing and accessories for both moms and their little girls. I love pretty much everything they sell and was so happy when they sent me these items to review.

review blog

First is the gray, chevron infinity scarf. This comes in other colors like pink and blue {when they have it in stock} but I enjoy mine and find pretty much any excuse to wear it. The gray is fun to pair with any solid top. P.S. If you happen to see these available, buy them up! They sell really fast.

Next, I was send a lightweight, taupe and cream striped sweater. It's a high-low style where there back is slightly longer than the front and it has 3/4 length sleeves. I've never seen this sweater in the online shop, but they stock many more items in their store than they can sell online. This is a great sweater for the spring/summer season. I can see pairing it with some cute shorts and sandals in the summer while I also enjoy wearing it with my skinny jeans and nude ballet flats on a nice, spring day. As described, this sweater is lightweight, so I'm sure to wear a cami underneath.

review blog

Finally, I was sent this set of jewelry, a black bubble necklace with matching earrings. This is SUCH a fun trend to mix with my clothes. The necklace looks great with tops or even maxi dresses and I like how the earrings are on the smaller size. It's also a set that can be worn with both casual or dressy clothes.

The items sent to me are just a very small sampling of what is actually available at Bloom. I highly recommend checking out their site/store for many more cute fashions at great prices. I can't even tell you how hard it is to not buy every new thing they add to their online store. I love it and want it all!

Head over there today for great deals and watch their facebook page for giveaways and sales!

I recently had the privilege to shop at Hartstrings, an online clothing store for children, and I had a wonderful time there. The online shop carries SO many adorable items, in fact, that it made choosing a bit difficult when it came time to complete my order. But, when it came down to it, I found something for each little one {even the one on the way} from their fall line.

Why don't you take a minute to check out my video and see the items I chose. I also couldn't help but share a few of the looks I fell in love with from their Holiday line of clothing.

The items I chose were not at all cheaply made. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the attention to detail and use of strong materials. Now that my daughter will be passing down her clothes to her {soon to be} baby sister, I need to know that something will last through 2 children before I buy it. At Hartstrings, I can pick anything I like and not be disappointed.

Like I said in the video, be sure to shop the sales on the website. First time buyers get 10% and that counts on top of sale prices as well. Score!

Here are some ways to keep up with Hartstrings:

Being a stay at home mom to 2 little ones, I try my hardest to make sure that we don't spend an arm and a leg on clothing them. I buy a lot of items second-hand in an effort to save money. However, the hubster and I agree that there are some things that we need to buy brand new and from a reputable brand. One of these things would be winter coats. {Winters get cold and downright nasty here so it's very important that we have the best in winter gear for our little ones.}

Up until recently, I had never heard of Rothschild Kids. Fortunately, I was contacted and asked if I would like to check out a jacket and share about it with all of you! Rothschild Kids sent over a Winter Racer Active Jacket For Boys in a size 5/6 and a Navy color {charcoal and cobalt are also options}.  Now, this size is a little big for Alex but we're excited to have this waiting for him next year after he grows a bit.

Check out his coat!

Alex has recently discovered pockets and enjoys stashing things in them. This jacket is great for that. I can easily use the zippered pockets for his gloves {when he's not wearing them} and he can use the Velcro pocket toward the top for his own, secret stash of toys or even a small snack.

The hood is fleece lined and has an elastic band to help hold it up. I'm a big fan of this detail. There are often days when it's windy and cold out. On those days, even though he's wearing a hat, I pull his hood up to keep him warm and covered from the wind as much as possible.

Inside the jacket is another pocket. For older boys, this is the perfect place to store an MP3 player so they can listen to tunes while sledding or enjoying other winter sports. For Alex, it will probably be used to hold his favorite Hot Wheels car.

The top half of this jacket is lined in a nice, thick fleece. Talk about cozy. I know Alex will be extra warm in this and to me, warmth and protection from the elements are the most important things a jacket can offer a little one.

And here is my final, favorite feature on the jacket. The sleeves have Velcro at the ends so I can easily put his gloves on and make sure his sleeve is snug on his wrist. No one likes to get snow up their sleeve and this will help me make sure that doesn't happen to Alex.

Here's some information from the website for you.

Stylin’ stripes create a sporty look for this winter coat for boys.  Perfect for a day of snowboarding or sledding, the quilted, puffy lining keeps you warm and padded while shredding the slopes.  Zip pockets safely store your gear away.

Additional Information

•    Available in:
o    Cobalt/Black/Charcoal

BUY IT: You can buy the Winter Racer Active Jacket for Boys for $60.

Now, let's just pretend I was shopping for a coat for Eliana. Rothschild Kids has a full line of jackets, snowsuits, and dress coats for infants as well. Here's what I would pick for her.
This is the Embroidered Bubble Jacket For Infant Girls. Isn't it just divine? It retails for $50 and has all the features to make sure she would stay warm as well. The hot pink with the pop of orange is to die for. And I can't resist the faux fur on the hood. I have the same detail on my jacket and would love a little matching for the 2 of us.

The hubster has been looking high and low for a hoodie that would keep him warm and would be able to last a while. He's pretty active and is always playing rough with Alex so this "lasting" thing is a pretty big deal and not at all easy to come by.

Me? I just like my comfort when it starts getting cold out. I love throwing on something cozy and warm and being done with it. Believe you, me. I know how to wear a hoodie out. I can thoroughly exhaust a hoodie from use and the signs of wear are all over the place.

Enter Carhartt and their durable line of hoodies. When offered the choice of what to review, I quickly learned that they make hoodies to serve many different style preferences as well as different fabrics. I was really impressed by this and understood why I see a lot of people who work outdoors decked out in Carhartt from head to toe. If a sweatshirt has so many options, their outerwear must be phenomenal.

I ordered a man's medium for the hubster and waited to see how it fit him after it arrived. I don't think I've ever seen a sweatshirt fit him so well. I also don't think I've seen him wear another shirt half as often as he has already worn this.

It's now been through the wash many times and it's showing no signs of "love". The hubster is smitten with his new hoodie and responded "This is really nice!" when I asked him what he thought of it. He's a man of few words but seeing him wear it so often speaks volumes {he does have other shirts to wear, by the way}.

Carhartt's description is:
Our Series 1889® Carhartt zip hoodie is perfect for going out or staying in. Made of 13-ounce, 80% cotton/20% polyester, it features an attached hood with draw cord closure, two front hand-warmer pockets and a Carhartt graphic on the front.
BUY IT: This hoodie sells for $54.00 on Carhartt's website.

As for me, well, I wear my hoodie every chance I get too. I love the color of it. More than that, though, I enjoy how soft the inside of this sweatshirt is. I often pair it with a t-shirt and my favorite pair of jeans for a comfortable day of doing whatever it is I'm doing.

And I have to tell you this. This hoodie is warm, warm, warm. Oh, goodness, how I love it.

I'm confident that I'll get a lot of wear out of this hoodie. I have a feeling, however, that this one will put up a fight of durability before it allows me to wear it out like I have my other hoodies.

Carhartt's description is:
Our midweight zip-front graphic hooded sweatshirt is great worn alone or layered. Made of 10.5-ounce, 50% cotton/50% polyester fabric, it features a chest logo stitch embroidery, three-piece hood for comfort and raglan sleeves for ease of movement. Longer length provides added coverage while reaching and bending on the job.
BUY IT: You can purchase this hoodie from Carhartt for $45.00

Earmark these as a great gift idea for those who are either outdoorsy, or have kiddos who keep them active and in need of clothes that can keep up. ;)

Welcome to Aloha Friday! It's a day where you can take it easy with a simple question/answer post and mingle with many other bloggers. To find out how to play along and where to link up, please visit Kailani at An Island Life!

Here's my question for the week:

In the summer, I always wish my closet were filled with sun-dresses and skirts to wear day in and day out. What is something you wish you could wear all summer? (Keep it clean! LOL)

After having a baby, my body was somewhat different than it was prior to getting pregnant. This meant I got to do some shopping for new, flattering clothes and I was more than excited when I found DOWNEAST Basics.

The looks at DOWNEAST Basics are classy and mature. And at low prices, anyone can add one or 2 more items to their purchase without spending a fortune.

I was given an opportunity to do a review and had way too much fun shopping around. I wanted to find something that would be flattering but also easy to wear while nursing my daughter. Here is the top I chose:

HOL09_40OneKindSnow09

This is the One of a Kind Top that regularly sells for $24.99. It’s a soft rayon/spandex blend that is extremely comfortable to wear. And with it’s tunic style, it hangs nicely over my *ahem* problem area while also being long enough to make me appear thinner. Not to mention, it’s just beautiful with its detail and all.  See?

This shirt is something that can be dressed up or dressed down and it’s comfortable enough to  wear to bed. I LOVE the comfort factor.

There are so many other items on the website that I would love to own. I’ll have to make a list for future shopping trips for sure. Make sure to check out their sale items. There are many good deals to  had!!

For this Spring into Summer season, I was able to work with TJMaxx and Marshalls with a “Spendervention” challenge. These stores have many items, from clothing to house wares, for below the retail price.

My challenge was to see how much I could get for $25 at each store. Each time, I spent below $25 and also was able to get exactly what I needed.

Clipboard01At TJMaxx, my goal was to pick up some things for the little lady on the way. I wanted to find some onesies and a blanket. So, off I went to see what I could find. For under $25, I walked out of the store with:

IMG_2284

First, I found a 5 pack of Carter’s onesies.

IMG_2288   IMG_2289 These are great quality onesies that retail for at least $15 per 5 pack. These were on clearance for $7.50.

Happy about that deal, I went on to shop for a receiving blanket for the baby. Again, I wanted great quality and nothing that would shrink after washing or lose its soft texture. I found this:

IMG_2290

IMG_2291

This blanket is made of very soft cotton and it double sided. It’s a flat pink fabric on the opposite side of the blanket from the flower print side. This retails for $5.00 or more and I got it for $3.99. Not doing too bad so far.

Since I had extra money, I went to look for a toy for the baby. I wanted to find something cute and girlie. Here’s what I found:

IMG_2285

IMG_2286

This adorable, pink, poodle is a rattle from Infantino. It has a hook on it so I can attach it to the handle on the baby’s car seat or in the stroller.  This dog retail for $6.00 and I got it for $3.99.

With still more money left on the gift card, I decided to let Alex pick something out since he was such a good helper to me in the store. Here’s what he picked:

IMG_2287

This is a wooden train that goes with his Thomas & Friends set. This train is a lights and sounds train (to be specific) that makes noises as is moves down the track. These sell for $11.00 or more in the store and we picked it up for $6.00 on clearance. Alex was in heaven with this.

Now, on to Marshalls!

Clipboard02

At Marshalls, my goal was to pick up some new things for the bathroom at home.  I desperately needed a new soap dispenser and something for Alex to put his toothbrush in. I wanted something that was nice and would last for a while so I wasn’t too worried about the price. Here’s what I decided on:

IMG_0748

This set is made by Hotel Twenty One. These are great, ceramic pieces. What I like most about them is their foam finish that keeps them from slipping on the counter.

IMG_2246

IMG_2247

Together, these 2 things would cost $23.00 before tax. I got the pair for $12.98. Wow! What a savings.  This came in way under my $25 spending goal so I let Alex pick something out and found one other thing we need.

Here’s what Alex chose:

IMG_2296

IMG_2297

This is a 4 pack of wooden puzzles from Melissa & Doug. This retails for $10 and we only paid $6.99 for it.

Since I still had money left, I browsed through the children’s area and found a cup for Alex to use. He really needed a new sippy cup and the one we found was just perfect.

IMG_2294     IMG_2295

This cup has a straw in it, a clip on it for a pocket or belt, and the price was more than reasonable. Regularly, this cup would cost $10 and we paid only $2.99 for it.

At both stores, I was able to find exactly what I need for way less than I budgeted to spend. Because of that, I was able to let Alex pick something fun and get other things I need.

Take $25 to your local TJMaxx or Marshalls store and see how much you can buy!
